1. ISO14001 Environmental Management System Certification Overview:
The ISO 14001 series of standards is an environmental management system standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization. It was formulated in response to increasingly severe global environmental pollution and ecological destruction, major environmental issues such as ozone layer depletion, global warming, and loss of biodiversity threatening human survival and development, in line with international environmental protection needs and based on the needs of international economic and trade development. Implementing the ISO14001 standard helps enterprises save energy, reduce consumption, turn waste into resources, decrease environmental protection expenditures, and lower costs. By establishing and implementing an environmental management system, it can reduce pollutant generation and emissions, promote waste recycling, save energy and raw materials, avoid fines and pollution discharge fees, thereby reducing costs.
2. ISO14001 Environmental Management System Certification Process:
Phase One: Establish and implement the ISO14001 environmental management system.
1) The organization shall establish and implement an ISO14001 environmental management system to formally meet the requirements of the ISO14001 standard.
2) Conduct an initial environmental review. This work evaluates the organization's environmental management situation, summarizes experience, identifies major environmental problems and analyzes their risks to determine control methods and future improvement directions. Generally, to conduct an initial environmental review, a working group consisting of personnel from environmental protection, production, technology, equipment and other aspects should be established. The working group must complete the identification and evaluation of laws and regulations, the identification and evaluation of environmental aspects, the evaluation of the gap between existing environmental management systems and ISO14001 standards, and form an initial environmental review report.
3) Complete environmental management system planning. The so-called environmental management system planning involves formulating an environmental policy based on the results of the initial environmental review and the organization's economic and technical strength; determining the environmental management system framework; determining organizational structure and responsibilities; setting goals, targets, and environmental management programs; and determining which environmental activities require operational control procedures.
4) Prepare system documents. The ISO14001 environmental management system is a documented environmental management system that requires the preparation of environmental management manuals, procedure documents, work instructions, etc.
5) Operate the environmental management system. Once the environmental management system documents are completed and officially promulgated, it marks that the environmental management system has been established and put into operation.
Phase Two: Certification acquisition phase.
After internal audits and management reviews, if the organization confirms that its environmental management system basically meets the requirements of the ISO14001 standard, is well applicable to the organization, and operates fully and effectively, it can submit an application for certification to a certification body that has been recognized by the China Environmental Management System Certification Body Accreditation Committee (you can check the website) and sign a certification contract, entering the ISO14001 environmental management system certification audit phase.
