1. Introduction to the RoHS Directive:
RoHS is a mandatory standard established by EU legislation. Its full name is the "Directive on the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment". This standard officially came into force on July 1, 2006, mainly to regulate the materials and process standards of electronic and electrical products, making them more beneficial to human health and environmental protection.
The official name of the new RoHS Directive is "Directive 2011/65/EU on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (recast)". It was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on July 1, 2011, and came into effect on July 21, 2011.
The new RoHS Directive is also known as RoHS 2.0. After January 2013, electronic products bearing the CE mark must comply with the requirements of this new directive.
2. Scope of the RoHS Directive:
Electronic and electrical products listed in the catalog operating below 1000V AC and 1500V DC (It includes not only complete products, but also components, raw materials and packaging used to produce complete products, covering the entire production chain.)
1. Large household appliances: Refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, air conditioners, gas grills, gas ovens and gas heaters, etc.
2. Small household appliances: Vacuum cleaners, electric irons, hair dryers, ovens, clocks, furniture with electrical functions, etc.
3. IT and communication equipment: Computers, fax machines, telephones, mobile phones, etc.
4. Consumer devices: Radios, televisions, video recorders, musical instruments, etc.
5. Lighting equipment: Fluorescent lamps other than household lighting, lighting control devices, etc.
6. Power tools: Electric drills, lathes, welding equipment, sprayers, etc.
7. Toys/entertainment and sports equipment: Electric vehicles, video game consoles, automatic gambling machines, toys with minor electrical functions, etc.
8. Medical devices: Radiation therapy equipment, electrocardiogram testers, analytical instruments, etc.
9. Monitoring/control devices: Smoke detectors, thermostats, factory monitoring and control equipment, etc.
