Introduction to China RoHS
Many electronic and electrical products still contain large amounts of restricted substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers due to functional requirements and limitations of production technology. Improper disposal of these products after disposal not only pollutes the environment but also wastes resources.
To promote the sustainable development of the electronics industry and resource conservation of electronic and electrical products, the Chinese government has formulated regulations on pollution control of electronic and electrical products, bringing pollution control work into the legal framework. To better implement these regulations and guide manufacturers in the electronic and electrical product supply chain to control the use of restricted substances from the source, China RoHS has been specifically implemented to meet the requirements of relevant legal documents and accelerate the substitution and reduction of restricted substances.
China RoHS Testing Methods and Limit Requirements:
Testing Method: GB/T 26125-2011 "Determination of Six Restricted Substances (Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers) in Electrical and Electronic Products"
Limit Requirements: According to GB/T 26572-2011 "Requirements for Concentration Limits of Certain Restricted Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products"
| Restricted Substance | Requirement |
| Lead | ≤0.1% |
| Cadmium | ≤0.01% |
| Mercury | ≤0.1% |
| Hexavalent Chromium | ≤0.1% |
| Polybrominated Biphenyls | ≤0.1% |
| Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers | ≤0.1% |
China RoHS Label Usage Instructions:
Based on product test report data analysis, the following is recommended:
(1) Use of Environmental Protection Labels
1. If the product does not contain hazardous substances, select
for labeling.
2. If the product contains hazardous substances, select
for labeling, and include the "Hazardous Substance Content Table" in the product instructions.
Notes:
- The number in the label indicates the environmental protection use period, which can be determined by the enterprise according to the requirements of SJ/Z 11388.
- Label forms: molding, spraying, pasting, printing
- Label location: on the product itself
- Specific requirements see Appendix
Appendix
Environmental Protection Labels
- Label dimensions: minimum area not less than 5mm × 5mm
- Label colors: green image 1 (C:85, M:30, Y:85, K:20), orange image 2 (C:0, M:75, Y:100, K:0)
- Proportion of label line parts: as shown in the attached example (grid count is 100×100). Number font is Impact, number height ratio to inner and outer ring diameters is 5:8:12
Precautions:
a) The label should be clear, visible, fade-resistant and not easy to remove;
b) When labeled on the product, it should generally be placed in a conspicuous position, such as the front, side with function keys, and back of the product;
c) Other appropriate eye-catching colors can also be used, and molded ones can have the same color as the product.
d) If labeling on the product is not possible due to volume, shape, surface material, or functional limitations, the label carrier can also be paper instructions, instruction CD (CD/DVD), or packaging.
(2) Hazardous Substance Content Table
Notes:
- Form method: printing
- Form location: product instructions
The Chinese characters and symbols used in the form should be clear and legible, with a font height not less than 1.8mm.
