1. What is Nickel release (Ni)?
Nickel (Ni) is a silvery-white, hard, ductile, and ferromagnetic metal element. It can be highly polished and is resistant to corrosion. Nickel is a siderophile element, with the highest concentration found in the Earth's core, where it exists as a natural nickel-iron alloy. In the Earth's crust, mafic rocks contain more nickel than felsic rocks.
2. Applications and hazards of Nickel release (Ni):
Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, nickel is often used in electroplating. It is mainly used in alloys (such as nickel steel and nickel silver) and as a catalyst (e.g., Raney nickel, particularly as a hydrogenation catalyst). It is also used in coinage and plating on other metals to prevent rust.
Nickel (Ni) is an element that can easily cause contact allergies. When released from nickel-containing materials and in prolonged contact with the skin, nickel can be absorbed, leading to allergies in some individuals. Further exposure to soluble nickel salts can cause allergic contact dermatitis (statistics show that 20% of people have obvious allergic reactions to nickel).
