Japanese Toy Safety Standard (ST2012)

1. Japanese Toy Safety Standard (ST2016) Introduction:

To enhance toy safety, the Japan Toy Association established the "Toy Safety Standard (ST)" specifically for toys used by children aged 14 and below. S stands for safety, T stands for toy. This standard is voluntary, and only products conforming to this standard are permitted to bear the ST mark on the product itself.

On February 1, 2016, the Japan Toy Association (JTA) released the new toy safety standard ST 2016, which came into effect on April 1, 2016. The previous version ST 2012 (5th edition) remained valid until March 31, 2018. During this transition period, both standards were acceptable for adding the ST certification mark.

2. ST2016 Test Items:

ST 2016 Part 1	Mechanical and Physical Properties in line with ISO 8124-1:2014
ST 2016 Part 2	Flammability in line with ISO 8124-2:2014
ST 2016 Part 3	Chemical Properties remains based on toy safety regulation in Japan Food Sanitation Law

3. ST2016 Testing Process:

1) Fill out the test application form;
2) Determine the test age group: under 3 years old or all age groups;
3) Provide test samples;
4) Arrange testing;
5) Issue test report.
