1. Introduction to ISO8124 "International Toy Safety Standard":
ISO8124 "International Toy Safety Standard" is a series of toy safety standards issued by ISO. The purpose of the standard is to reduce potential hazards to children from toy use, both under intended use patterns (normal use) and unintended use patterns (misuse). The standard applies to children under 14 years old.
2. ISO8124 "International Toy Safety Standard" Test Items:
| Standard No. | Test Content |
|
ISO8124-1 Mechanical and Physical Properties |
Two aspects: Safety requirements for toy structural features (e.g., shape, size, contour, clearance) and parameter requirements for certain toy performances (e.g., maximum kinetic energy of projectiles, minimum angle for ride-on toys). It should be noted that child anthropometrics provide reliable data for physical quantities in toy safety, such as various crank probes simulating bendable fingers of children of different age groups to check toy clearances and prevent finger pinching. |
|
ISO8124-2 Flammability |
Requires that toys must not constitute a combustible hazard in children's environments. The standard identifies four types of toys: clothing worn by children, toys that children can enter, toys that children hug, and masks. Flame spread speed is determined based on the time a child moves away, throws down, or leaves a burning toy. For example, commercially available plush stuffed toys are considered hugging toys, and their flame spread speed must not exceed 30 mm/s. |
|
ISO8124-3 Migration of Certain Elements |
Specifies maximum limit requirements for transferable harmful elements (antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury, selenium) in toy materials and components. The standard describes the element analysis process interestingly: scraping paint from the toy surface, crushing it (simulating a child biting the item), mixing with hydrochloric acid (simulating stomach acid), placing in a 37°C incubator (simulating body temperature), shaking for one hour (simulating digestion), then analyzing the sample via spectrometry. |
3. ISO8124 Testing Process:
1) Fill out the test application form;
2) Determine the test age group: under 3 years or all ages.
3) Provide test samples;
4) Arrange testing;
5) Issue test report.
