1. Introduction to DGCCRF (French Food Grade):

DGCCRF is the abbreviation for French food-grade safety regulations. Products sold in France must not only comply with the EU Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 but also meet local French regulations, including French DGCCRF 2004-64 and French Décret nº 92-631. French regulations have special requirements not only for plastic and rubber products in contact with food but also for metal products, with specific classifications and requirements.

2. DGCCRF Testing Items:

General plastic products PE/PP: Overall migration test

PVC plastic products: Overall migration test, Vinyl chloride monomer test

Melamine resin products: Overall migration test, Formaldehyde release test

Ceramic, glass, crystal products: Lead, cadmium release test

Enamel products: Lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium release test, additional test on cup rim for lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium release

Silicone rubber products: Overall migration test, (VOM) Volatile organic matter content, Peroxide value test, Organotin compound test

Rubber products: Overall migration test, Formaldehyde release test, Peroxide value test, Aromatic amine release test, Nitrosamine and its compound content, Total volatile organic compounds

Paper products: (PCP) Pentachlorophenol test, Polychlorinated biphenyl test, Heavy metal release (lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium) test, Antimicrobial component migration test, Glyoxal release test, Sensory test

Most stainless steel used for food contact materials contains 18% chromium, which is considered the most suitable corrosion resistance concentration for food and beverage contact materials. This is also the ideal concentration for cost-effectiveness and reduced manufacturing expenses. In France, stainless steel for food contact products must contain at least 13% chromium, and should also contain nickel and manganese. The main limitation is the addition of other alloying elements.
