This law is the most stringent consumer protection legislation since the establishment of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in 1972. On December 15, 2010, the Canadian government announced that both houses of Parliament passed the new Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA), which came into effect on June 20, 2011. This Act replaces Part 1 and Schedule 1 of the previous Hazardous Products Act. The CCPSA prohibits anyone from manufacturing, importing into Canada, advertising, or selling any consumer product that does not meet requirements.
