General Product Safety CE Certification
The General Product Safety Directive (GPSD) (2001/95/EC) sets safety requirements for all consumer products sold on the European market. Unlike other European directives, GPSD is not a CE marking directive. Placing a product on the market is the only act that proves the product has been evaluated and meets the general safety requirements. A key aspect related to the scope of GPSD is that it focuses only on consumer products, although this also includes products used by consumers under reasonably foreseeable conditions, even if not intended for them. Another note regarding the scope is that it does not exclude products covered by other CE marking regulations, so GPSD should be applied alongside all other applicable laws.
